At White Oak Counseling, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to receive the counseling you need. This is why we offer Telehealth (also called Virtual Therapy, Remote Counseling, etc.).
How does Telehealth work?
Telehealth appointments are generally conducted through video visits, but can also be a telephone call, if requested. If your telehealth visit is video, you will receive a link to sign in right before your scheduled appointment. If it is a phone call, your therapist will call you at your scheduled time.
Why would I use Telehealth?
- You live too far to come to our office in person
- Not feeling well, but still want to have a counseling session
- Time restrictions
- Away at College (in state), but want to continue therapy
- Having car problems
- Your Mental Health Condition makes it hard to leave your home
- Out of town for business or on vacation (in state)
Are there any Restrictions to Remote Therapy?
We are only licensed to counsel in the state of Michigan. You must be physically within the state of Michigan during your telehealth session. So, if you are out of town for business or on vacation, you can still have a telehealth session, as long as you are still within the state.
Some types of therapy have better results when in person, such as EMDR. EMDR can still be done remotely, but you may need to have a special type of headphones or other equipment, depending on the therapist’s recommendation.
Which Therapists do Telehealth?
All of our therapists are trained in virtual counseling and use this tool many times each week.
Is There a Cost Difference?
In most cases, remote therapy and in-person therapy is the same cost. In some cases, insurance co-pays are less for telehealth, but this is rare.
