Brenda Gonyou

MA, LLPC (Limited License Professional Counselor)

Brenda Gonyou graduated from Cornerstone University with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her concentration in Trauma-Focused therapy is based on the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model, which allows the client to address how emotions, thoughts, and behaviors impact how we feel about ourselves and how we relate to others. Her treatment style is based on an eclectic blend of modalities, including art, play, and music therapy. Brenda is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be implemented alongside other modalities of treatment. Brenda’s undergraduate degree is from GVSU, and her career journey has allowed her to serve others as a teacher, fitness instructor, and medical assistant. Along with being a wife and mother, her life experiences have given her a unique perspective about how the mind, body, and soul are interconnected. She works with a diverse population, including adults, couples, teens, and children. Brenda truly has “never met a stranger” and seeks to know and understand each person as an individual. She believes that providing a safe place for EACH client is the first step in building a therapeutic relationship, whether relating to an individual, couple, or group.
